Soccer players in the old days were made of sterner stuff. Nowadays they're vastly over-protected.
PrettyMuchAmazing has the right idea but the details are slightly wrong. His name was Bert Trautmann and he "only" played 17 minutes (in "" because I can't imagine doing that) in goal for Manchester City. Here's what Wikipedia says (full article below):
Trautmann entered football folklore with his performance in the 1956 FA (Football Association) Cup Final. With 17 minutes of the match remaining Trautmann suffered a serious injury after diving at the feet of Birmingham City's Peter Murphy. Despite his injury he continued to play, making crucial saves to preserve his team's 3–1 lead. His neck was noticeably crooked as he collected his winner's medal; three days later an X-ray revealed it to be broken
Nowadays at the slightest hint of an injury the players are off down the hospital for multiple X-rays and MRI scans and who knows what else.
In the link you mention, it depends on how serious the break is. If it's only a hairline fracture, he possibly might have carried on and just attributed it to a slightly wayward contact with someone.

I don't think so. NFL players train to run short distances and then stop. If they would play soccer they would get winded very easy because soccer is non stop. The second reason would be because of the football players instincts. People like Brian Urlacher are trained to hit people. If they did that even once on the soccer field they would get ejected. The third and final reason would be because they have never really been trained to use their feet like they do in soccer. I mean could you imagine a big defensive linemen running and kicking a soccer ball? I think we would have the intimidation factor but once that rubbed off we would get our butts kicked

Get real !!!
A Puffball player wouldn't play with a broken finger nail or split ends let alone a fractured jaw !
Ronaldo n Drogba would have still been rolling around the floor now !

They play with fractured cheekbones quite a lot, you may have seen the "zorro" masks they were...and didn't a goal keeper play the FA Cup final with a broken neck once, I forget his name lol
