Direct TV box not turning on?

My Direct TV box is not turning on, in either of my rooms. The bill is paid up to current, and even if it wasn't it usually still turns on and gives an unpaid bill message or something similar. They are both plugged in in different rooms, breakers are working and they were working last night. Any ideas what it could be before I call customer service?

    Thanks everyone. i finally got through to them and they said that Direct TV tried to download and upgrade to new software last night and it actually didnt "go as planned" and now everyones DVR's are effected like this. He said that they "are hopeful that it will be resolved within the next couple days" So... I hope its fixed soon.

    Start by resetting your DirectTV box.

    Depending on the model receiver you have you can:

    1. Unplug and replug the power cord.

    2. Press the little red button inside the compartment at the lower right hand corner of the receiver.

    When the first blue screen appears,

    enter the numbers 0 2 4 6 8 from your DirectTV remote.

    This will inititiate a new software download on you receiver,

    which will take serveral minutes.

    After the software download, your box will automatically go through a normal restart.

    Then you should be back online.

    For environmental reasons you should turn both off. Most DV boxes turn back on when on timer- but if you do not know - then leave it on when recording - otherwise turn it off. Or check the instructions to see what it does when on timer.

    directv.com if you don't want too wait. i always had to unplug them. depends on the model box you have as well. or just call them. and listen to them for as long as it takes. there may be help in the booklet they send you. i had a real hassel from the help one time for not looking at it first.

    Source(s): i had them so long one of my boxes burned out. i had to buy my own(they wanted too much)so i found a tv store that had on... change service too dish.just as bad. things are different nowadays.

    I have the same problem and calling doesn't help. I've tried three different numbers I have for them and two won't connect the third just goes dead after connecting.

    Same is happening with all my receivers.I called customer service and they are just hanging up.

    Must be a major meltdown.
