Why is American Football called Football?

Alright, to start off many countries are now starting to call Football Soccer because they are following America's lead. But the thing is MOST countries still call it Football in fact i'd say 9/10 countries still call it Football. I'm American but i, as many others here think calling it Soccer is ridiculous England call it Football because that is the original and "correct" name for the sport. America called it Soccer because we took more of an interest to Football (American) first. So when Football (Soccer) was introduced to America we already had a "Football" so we came up with the name Soccer for the sport. Secondly, Saying England is insignificant is a very incorrect statement, when it comes to Soccer they are the best country in the world at it, possibly rivaled by Brazil. In turn, they have much influence on international Soccer culture. Finally, you can't own a language.. and the ENGLISH language is native to England and since America was an English colony when we won our independence we kept the language. Although, as America does have a large cinema Business, any movies about Football made in english will have the sport be referred to as Soccer so kids pick up on calling it Soccer if they speak english because it's America making the movies.

Because the ball is shaped like a foot & is a foot long, (12inchs) instead of a round speer as most balls are.

In countries where the round soccer ball is most played, they call this game football instead of soccer because it is mostly played with skilled feet and lots of running.

In countries that have Grid Iron, Rugby leage, Rugby Union, Aussie Rules, etc, such as USA, Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea as their prefered , most popular ball game. Then the Foot shaped Ball is played by Footy (football) players & the lesser round ball game is 99% called just Soccer.

In ALL footy codes using the foot shaped ball there is still kick offs at start, penaties, feild goals & In Aussie Rules Football the game is Mostly catching & kicking not running.

I prefere playing soccer, but i prefere to watch Rugby Leauge Football.

When the game was originally created, the ball measured 1 foot across.

Soccer is soccer, Football is football!

Feet are used, but not to the extent that they are in soccer. But the first thing anyone does in any American football game is kick the ball: the kickoff.

American Football and Rugby originated from Football(soccer). However we kept the name.
