Why do idiots who know nothing about dogs insist on getting them as pets?
I am endlessly amazed at the people who get pets knowing nothing about the care of them, how to train them, and without a clue as to how huge a responsibility it is to care for and pay for the care of a pet. It makes me furious.
Forgive me. I become so frustrated with stupid people who bring harm to dogs just by being ignorant. They see a full grown, trained dog and then go out and buy a cute little fuzz ball thinking that all they have to do is feed it and brush is, and it's going to magically transform into a well mannered family pet. It just makes me angry enough to spit.

Why ? Because we license the dogs rather than the owners !! They should be required to take a lengthy course before being allowed to purchase a dog...
We have 4 rescued dogs here on the ranch... don't even MENTION the cost of feed !! 4 dogs, 2 rescued horses... and of course the deer and turkeys love to steal the food !!

I am frustrated by the people you mentioned as well. I was raised with dogs and had a first hand experience on the work and responsibility needed for a dog. I learned so much in fact when I moved away from my mothers house I waited 4 years before I got new dogs. Why did I wait so long? I had to make sure I had enough money, I lived in a stable home with a stable job, had enough time to take on puppies, and of course research research research. I had to find the right dog for me. I was willing to travel all over the country to find my perfect dog. Thankfully I found them both just one state below me. So many of my friends think I am strange though. I have been with my current boyfriend for 3 years and every timee he caught me researching dogs he would ask when I was going to get one.
To me this sort of planning should be a requirement for pet owners. I have seen so many bad dogs owners, a couple right next door to me! I wish there was a test people would have to go through before owning an animal. Sadly people only see the cute fluffy puppy and have hearts of stone to be able to throw out their grown up puppy a year later when things "aren't working out".

It does bother me. It simply does not occur to a lot of people that the well-behaved dogs they see on TV or on a walk at the park might actually require extensive training and exercise. Look how many people get cattle dogs or huskies and think they can handle them. Look at how few of them are NOT pulling their hair out by the roots in frustration because they didn't realize their dog needs two hours of exercise a day.
People who know what a dog requires but refuse to provide it bother me more. Ignorance is one thing. Ignorance can be cured if the person is receptive and wants help. Outright refusal to train and walk your dog, however, is something else entirely. It's laziness. The dog is bored out of its skull, jumps on people, barks at the door, pees in the house, etc. This is a common theme in many homes and nothing is done and eventually the dog is rehomed because it can't read minds and figure it out without direction.
Inability to pay vet bills isn't something that bugs me so much, in some circumstances. We don't make much money so we can't just throw cash down for an emergency $2,000 procedure. HOWEVER, we are perfectly willing to take out a loan and/or borrow from relatives or get Care Credit. The ones that want a home cure for cancer bug me. The ones that want at-home remedies because $65 for the checkup fee and antibiotics is somehow "too much" really bug me. How can you afford monthly dog food then? What'll you do when your dog gets hit by a car? Ask for a home remedy for a shattered pelvis, spinal injury, and cracked ribs?

Yes, I see puppies bought of given away and then handed to kids that think the dogs are way-cool stuffed toys! While doing the Census, I did a very rundown apartment building and I saw this all the time. Correcting someone else's kid..... You have to be the diplomat. What better way than to being your well-trained dog and give a few pointers. Believe me, the kids will come running! I did this and received a lot of thanks from every adult. Teaching by example and the supporting of ordinances and laws with your local city council can help. The point: complain all you want but back it up with action and positive solutions.

I know, I am amazed at how many people need to be told "you don't like your dogs behaviour? Train your dog", it's like it never occurred to them ...
Before we bought our puppy my husband and I sat down and adjusted our monthly budget to ensure we could AFFORD a dog (including some extra money for emergency vet visits), and I had called local places and got all the start dates for puppy training classes the week before we went to pick up our new puppy.
A lot of people are surprised when I tell them this, like I'm extra over-prepared. To me, I was just taking care of the puppy we were bringing in to our home.
Now I do have some sympathy in terms of overly expensive unforeseen health issues, but I am talking about your dog having a tumour and needing $1200 surgery. To me, that is a reasonable "vet care costs too much" type of expense that NO ONE sees coming. But the whole "we got a new puppy this week and he's throwing up and the $65 check-up is too much" that is just insanely irresponsible.

These people are just idiots and don't care later they'll send the dog to the shelter to get put down. They don't care about anything but themselves. I had to retrain some dogs as they would have been put down and family members got them and didn't have that much to retrain and make sure they spent the time however we weren't going to let them be put down. So I retrained them for my uncle and and 2 cousins lol

You basically answered you're own question, they are idiots ignorant about dogs so they think that they can get whatever they want without researching first. It is a shame cause it is the dog that has to suffer in the end.

This is because of the way dogs are portrayed in the media and marketed in pet shops. Also these people could have had experience with a family/friend's well behaved pet and think its easy so they don't know the other side of it.

People who can't AFFORD pets who get them anyway also kill me.
I can't stand the Qs here from people who got a pet, can't afford it, and come here looking for magical free solutions.

Caitlyn...honey....you just bought a puppy from a store....lol
Lots of research you did before that decision was made?
Back to question...yep...no lack of idiots here
Source(s): I didnt call you an idiot. You said that you've done tons of research....buying a puppy mill dog completely goes against that. Learn your lesson and move on...just dont keep making excuses. There are plenty of Shih Tzu Breeders and Poodle Breeders around. If you wanted a dog that bad, you could have gone through either one of the breeders and got yourself a purebred dog. If you wanted a mutt, should have gotten one from a shelter. End of discussion
