Princip was a member of the Serbian nationalist group called the Black Hand. The Black Hand believed that Bosnia should join with Serbia rather than the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Franz Ferdinand was assassinated while he was conducting a good-will tour of Bosnia because he was a high-ranking official in the Austro-Hungarian government. He was the heir to the Habsburg throne.
