If you take Babe Ruth's numbers and compare them to Barry Bonds' numbers, Ruth is the better player. If you remove the names from the numbers, and call Ruth's numbers Player A, and Bonds' numbers Player B, Ruth comes out on top. Bonds played almost 500 more games, hit for a batting average that was 44 points below Ruth's, slugged 83 points lower than Ruth, and also put up 2 consecutive seasons as a pitcher where he won 23 and 24 games. No contest- Ruth outhomered most teams a couple of years.

Some people are saying you can't compare them because Ruth is that good and some are saying Bonds is better. While I disagree with the first statement, I really disagree with the latter. Barry Bonds, especially regardless of steroids, is among the greatest in history. However, Babe Ruth is THE greatest in history, or at least the stories and statistics say that. Basically every baseball expert will say that Ruth is the best of all-time.

Steroids and PED ignored. Ruth and Bonds played in different eras. Even if Bonds numbers were not in question, there are considerations between the two eras that do not allow a one to one fair comparison of numbers alone.

Ruth was the best of his era and Bonds might be the best of his era. It's almost like comparing a 1927 Ford vs. a 2002 Ford - the only basic similarity is that they are cars. Technology (baseball training) and performance (HRs, hits) are difficult to match equally.

Barry Bonds is flat out the greatest player to step foot on the field. Regardless of steroids like you said, this dude won numerous gold gloves, and his bat speaks for itself. No doubt he is the most feared hitter ever. His swing is the prettiest thing I've ever seen!

Ruth and Aaron don't even compare.

The leaving off point: Ruth could pitch. Bonds couldn't.

Ruth had World Series pitching records and would have made the Hall of Fame as a pitcher. He was simply the best.

No. Compare Ruth's numbers to the other top players of his era, then do the same with Bonds. Pujols and ARod are both going to end up with similar, if not better, numbers than Bonds. Sosa had a few Bonds-like seasons. Nobody who played in Ruth's time even came close to what he did. Then you throw in Ruth's pitching prowess and it's a no-brainer to me.

Pitchers in fat boy Ruth's era threw a ball on an average of 60 miles per hour. He was swinging a bat over 50 ounces. And yes, they did use testosterone then and so did Hank Aaron. I interviewed pitchers form the fifties and they all used oral steroids brought over from world war 2 that the nazis used to make their soldiers look bigger and meaner. Deny, deny, deny, but they all used it. I'd like to see fat boy ruth hit a 100mph pitch of today. He fall flat on his rear end and cry like a girl.

Well it was a completely different era for baseball. Ruth played during the deadball era, when the ball was much heavier and not thrown as hard. These days, the ball is much lighter and it is known that the harder the throw, the farther the ball goes. I believe if Ruth were still playing today, he would completely demolish any record that Bonds has.

    Babe Ruth

He hit so many home runs in an era in baseball when it was hard to. I am *not a fan of Bonds for...reasons*. However, I'm a fan of Aaron, and I think Aaron is the HR king.

If were are to pretend that PEDs never happened, I'd have to say that Bonds was slightly better.
