Should the Yankees have Mark Texiera play shortstop since he has so much more range than Jeter?

Mark Texiera's fielding is so good but he plays the easy 1st base position where it isnt needed as much. Since Jeters fielding isnt nearly as good, should they switch places and have Jeter play 1st base and Texiera play shortstop. What would be the pros and cons of this and why?

Teixeira's fielding is great compared to other firstbasemen - not shortstops. That's crazy.

Should Joba play the outfield since he throws so well - he could get runners out easy!

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Jeter's over-rated as a fielder. His range has been mediocre for a while, which is why he doesn't get as many errors as other, better shortstops--because he can't get to the ball as well, the balls he misses (that others could get) would always count as a hit. However, as for your question, I don't think so: A. Derek Jeter is Derek Jeter... no one will replace him unless he wants to be. B. I'm not sure if Mark Texiera would be that much better of a replacement. What the Yankees should've done is put A-Rod at shortstop when they traded for him, and put Jeter at second base. Now that A-Rod is so used to playing third base, he probabpy can't play short as well anymore. If the Yankees were to put someone else at short (without it being a free agent) presently, it would be Cano... but Jeter isn't going to get moved anytime soon, barring any injuries or other vagaries.

It's not a terrible idea, but, as people say, "If it ain't broke...."

Jeter's range is fine, and I think he's more adept at making the kinds of plays that shortstops are to make. Tex gives the Yankees a Gold Glove first baseman and his glove can save a lot of the potentially errant throws from the infielders. The entire infield benefits from having Mark Teixeira at first base.

You can't just switch positions of players who have been at the same one for years. Texiera would have to take years to learn the fundamentals of playing short and the same for Jeter.

You may think Texiera has great range because he plays his position well, but Jeter's range and fielding are far superior.

Where did you get that idea? Last time I looked Jeter's range is just fine, thank you very much. Tex has a great glove but he doesn't have near the range a normal shortstop has. Tex's glove saves the infield a great many errors over the course of a season. Why do you think the Yankees won the WS so easily last season?

Your idea doesn't make any sense defensively.

No, because Jeter has more agility and a better throwing arm. Leave it as it is. Mark Texiera is the best defensive first baseman.

it could be a huge mistake for the Yankees to positioned ARod decrease back at shortstop. i have were given no doubts that he can nevertheless container the area, notwithstanding the area replace will only about truly reason some psychological themes which will ensue on the plate. Betemit is a reliable protective participant and he's were given a reliable bat, the Yanks could positioned him in at short.

This is a reasonable question but nobody is going to change Derek Jeter's position unless its the man himself....

Are you crazy? Where would they put Jeter, then? Jeter's got four gold gloves, if i recall correctly. He's just fine at short, and Tex is fine at 1B.
