My 2000 Lincoln LS brake lights keep burning out?

I have a 2000 Lincoln LS V8 and my brake lights constantly go out. What is happening is when I replace both bulbs and I press the brake pedal my brake lights work fine for a short period of time. After a little bit I get the dashboard alarm saying I have one, or both, brake lights out. Shortly after that they will start working, and then stop working until they finally stop working all the time. Hazards do work but not the brake.

I am curious if anyone has had a similar problem or knows what some of the possible causes of this could be aside from the two possibilities I have listed below.

I did find that where my battery was grounded to the chassis, the bolt was weak and broke when I tried taking it off to clean to make sure it has a good connection to. I will be re-grounding it after I get the bolt out or find a new location for it. I'm not sure if this could have been the cause but thought I would ask.

I also checked all my fuses and they are not blown, some did have some corrosion on them and will be cleaning out the fuse/relay box to remove the debris from the connectors. Again, I'm not sure if this could be a cause but would like some input.

Two possible answers to your problem, either you have a bad ground which i had happen to me,and i have a 2001 town car, which are quite similar, and you can check your grounds to see if one is loose, or you have a bad wiring harness leading to the back of your car, but most likely a bad electrical ground!

clean check and tighten the rear lamp connecters it is a possibilitiy that your bulb failure warning unit is faulty as the brake lamp circuit runs through it. check out your stop light switch as well
