Fried chicken drumsticks (or baked after rolling in beaten egg and crushed cornflakes), individual veggie stick cups (carrots, celery, grape tomatoes, cucumber coins) with little cups of ranch dressing, apple and pear wedges to dip into yogurt (also individual, to prevent double dipping, which they WILL do, applesauce, mashed potatoes. These are all super-familiar foods, easy to eat and easy to prepare ahead. A fun dessert is to set up a little do-it-yourself cupcake station where already-frosted cupcakes can be decorated by the kids w/ sprinkles, dragees, nonpareils, etc. It makes almost a party activity in itself. You could also do a low-key "hot dog stand", serving plain dogs in buns and having toppings out in bowls: mustard, ketchup, relish. Kids love to participate in making their own food. With this you could serve a fairly plain baked bean casserole, deviled eggs and sweet pickle chips, potato chips if you like. And never forget pigs in blankets!!

Source(s): been there, done that, and these foods always were a hit w/ the little people.

Apart from the obvious cake, make some 'baby pies' in your muffin pan.

You could do some sweet ones and some savoury meat ones.
