1998 Dodge Gran Caravan won't start intermittently?

My van keeps shutting down right after. The vehicle will start 20 times then with no warning it will start then shut off in two seconds then not start again until the next day.

It doesn't happen every time, at first it was every few months but now it’s once or twice a week. Sometimes it takes an hour or let it sit overnight before it will start again. It has been checked by several mechanics and even Pep boys they have changed a few parts but none of them solved the problem, no one seems to know what is causing it. I am a mom of 4 and every time this happens we are stranded wherever and whenever it decides to not turn on and have to find a way to get home. Does any one have a solution or have been having the same problem?

It needs to be scanned with a DRB3 (or engineers DRB)to determine if it was a theft fuel shut down, or ccd bus failure.

Theft fuel will be recorded and point to the source of the theft fuel state.

Sometimes something as simple door key switch will cause the bcm to see a theft state.

CCD bus failure will be a little more complicated as I have seen an air bag module and remote key-less entry module cause the condition like you have, anything faulty on the bus can take it down.

The pcm has to see the bcm on the bus and if there is no communication it could cause your condition.

Because it is an intermittent condition, it can be difficult to track down.

Edit: I have to agree with Bill, they did have wiring problems then, the biggest I found was the person who wrote the factory manuals was color blind, I worked on them when they were pristine so I didn't see as much corrosion issues at that time.

both the above answers have good points and one other thing you need to check is the ignition switch on it,they will cause a temporary loss of power like that, then the next day or even in few minutes they will start and run again,,i think a lot of mechanics over look bad ignition switches because their under the belief that as long as it starts and runs its not bad, that's not true,i have replaced more ignition switches in those vans than i have battery's in them, good luck.

in the dodge vans grand caravan or just caravan they have wire problems in the main fuse block under the hood you have to take the fuse/relay block lose from the fender well turn it over and check for bad wires or corrosion under the fuse/relay panel i work as a mechanic and have seen similar problems in the past good luck!
