In 1996 every vehicle made should have been equipped with R-134A. There will usually be a tag on the compressor or accumulator denoting this.

J.M.??? your job requires you to know this??? well than why did you say "IT SHOULD"??? YOU SHOULD KNOW ! RIGHT???
and what should be known is that on a 14yr old car the wording on certain engine parts get worn and fade especially on the compressor that gets cold and wet for 14yrs
sooo check the manual (provided you have it) or the local parts store can give you the EXACT answer
and its REFRIGERANT,,,smile?
