Car damaged by hail during recent storm?

Our son visited us this past weekend he drove his wife's mothers car to our house from out of state. During his stay we had a huge hail storm and it made some dents in the vehicle and broke the side mirrors. They then drove back home and called us to ask if our homeowners policy might cover it. I explained that homeowner policy's and auto insurance are two different things and that it needs to be claimed on their insurance. My feelings is that if a part of the house or a tree would have landed on the vehicle it May, be covered but my thoughts are that this is their auto policy claim as the vehicle was only parked and could have been damaged where it was parked anywhere in the area during the storm. Anyone have any experience with something like this?

YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT IN ALL OF YOUR REMARKS HAIL DAMAGE IS ONLY COVERED UNDER THE VEHICLE COVERAGE AND SUBJECT TO TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THEIR POLICY IF A COVERED PERIL LANDED ON THE CAR CAUSING DAMAGE, THEN YOU COULD CONSIDER YOUR HOME OWNERS COVERAGE ALSO USUALY AN AUTO DEDUCTIBLE IS MUCH LOWER THAN HOMEOWNERS

Your homeowners insurance will not cover this. You are correct in saying that if a tree limb or any other structure on your property had caused this, it may be covered, but not in this case. They will need to be carrying comprehensive auto insurance to pay for it. I live in tornado alley and have seen a lot of hail damage over the years. Much of it on cars parked in driveways or yards of homes. NEVER have I heard of homeowners insurance covering this.
