Don't do it!!! I live in Atlanta and went to NY on business. I landed in NY and to my dismay my phone wouldn't work. A colleague of mine who was traveling with me had a different (and much cheaper) metro phone and his worked fine. After repeatedly turning the phone off and on and taking the battery out and putting it back in to no avail, I decided to call customer service. The first representative had no clue why the phone wasn't working and suggested that I add money to my metro connect account. I was appalled!!! Why should I have to add money to my account in order to use my phone where MetroPCS has service? I hung up and called customer service again to get a more knowledgeable rep. This time I got someone who knew what the issue was as soon as I told them I had the Blackberry Curve. He said that the Blackberry for MetroPCS is a Dual Band phone and as such will not work in NY or Las Vegas!!! Apparently, Metro in NY and Vegas uses a band the Metro Blackberry doesn't support but all of Metro's Tri or Quad band phones do support.

I had just purchased the phone a few days before my NY trip. When I returned, I went back to the MetroPCS store to try and return the phone (it was in pristine condition with no scratches after owning it for only 9 days) for a comparable one and they cited their 7 day return policy. I was ONLY TWO DAYS OFF!!! The store rep. (the same one that sold me the phone) didn't even know that the phone wouldn't work in NY and thought I made it up because I wanted to change phones. He called customer service to verify my story and they told him the same thing they told me. He then apologized but said the only thing he could do is call me when he got another purchase order for a blackberry, sell mine to the new customer at a discounted price, and use the money from that order toward a new phone for me. He never called!!! How OUTRAGEOUS!!! If Metro is to evolve into a company that can compete with its overpriced counterparts, customer service is going to need an upgrade!!!

However, here's the kicker, I'm not sure if you have Boost Mobile (owned by Sprint) in NY but Boost has the SAME phone for $100 less that works everywhere Sprint has service with the same $60 per month service price for unlimited everything. Also, Metro PCS restricts the playing of YouTube Videos on their Blackberry and Boost does not. I found this out the hard way when I tried to play a YouTube video and got an error message. I went to Boost and they actually demonstrated for me their Blackberry Curve playing YouTube videos.

Also, for some reason, Blackberry doesn't support Brew, the application that runs Metro Navigator. So, the Metro Blackberry doesn't have a viable GPS app. It has an App called Maps that will give you directions but doesn't do turn by turn navigation and doesn't Talk. The Google Maps app does the same. There's another GPS-based app called Poynt that's pretty cool but Metro's WackBerry takes forever to lock on to a GPS signal so it makes the app pointless.

Furthermore, I own a Blackberry Curve for AT&T and found the metro Blackberry to be glitchy compared to AT&T's. The Video Player frequently freezes and has errors which I never experienced with AT&T's. The Brickbreaker game loses frames and the ball literally disappears from one spot and reappears in another if a text or email message comes through while you're playing the game. This NEVER happened with the AT&T Blackberry. Also, Metro's Blackberry ONLY comes in RED and Boost's Blackberry comes in a more neutral Silver. I had to put a Black case on my Metro Blackberry for my own aesthetic pleasure. My Wife has a MetroPCS Samsung Finess II (the prequel to the Caliber) and loves it! Now I wish I had gotten that phone instead!!!

I love Blackberry but Metro's version is a WackBerry. Save a hundred bucks and get a Caliber with a 3.0 (as opposed to Blackberry Curve's 2.0) megapixel camera and a full HTML Browser (which the Blackberry doesn't have) or switch to Boost Mobile (If you guys have Boost in NY) and get the same phone for $100 less with less of the hassle.
