usb on front of sky plus?

has anyone ever used it to record off sky to external hard drive? I was going to put my saved programmes from sky plus onto an external hard drive using the usb port so i could then delete them off the box, but after googling it a lot of people say you can only use it for charging things like i pod etc??????

Update:

Thanks Mark and Thanks J M, didn't think of it that way! Nothing's ever as easy as it seems! But I could just record them to DVD using a DVD recorder couldn't I?

The USB port was placed on the Sky box to make them future proof. No software/firmware was ever written to utilise it as yet. When Sky do decide to use these ports they will update the firmware. Hope this helps.

properly interestingly you could checklist a action picture, then stick on your usb pen stick and watch it, and it will checklist onto the usb so which you will watch it lower back on the computing device - i attempted as quickly because it and it did no longer artwork, yet that's what the counsel e book pronounced!

Think about this logically. When you download a progamme to hard drive it is still scrambled until you watch it. so even if you could record it ,it would still not be watchable.
