Holiday in Ireland planning and cash.?
Myself and a friend are planning on visiting Ireland next summer. We are bickering (friendly bickering) over plans. I want to either land in Shannon and work our way to Dublin. My friend wants to base us in Tipperary/Cashel and travel everywhere based from there. We have a 7 day window once we are in Ireland so we need suggestions from those who live there on which would be the better plan for travel times and what to see.
We also need an idea on how much money we will need (aside from air fare and lodging) for food and getting around. We are not touristy and do not want to fall into tourist traps aimed at taking advantage of us Yanks, lol...
Thanks in advance...

If you are looking for a less expensive route i would choose the tipperary route, Dublin is our most expensive county for food, drink and shopping. For example a pint of beer in Tipperery will b less than 3.60euro, but dublin could b 6euro.... As dublin is our capital alot of places are aimed at tourists and therefore crazy expensive! The south of ireland is probably your best route, fabulous irish scenery also which is lacking in Dublin... Ireland is a very dear country at the moment unfortunatly, food in restaurants can be quite dear but supermarkets can be reasonable especially Tescos and Dunnes Stores. Try avoid any "irish" shops, trust me you will no what i mean once you see them, all Gift shops, leprechaun crap etc hah... transport is not cheap either, many taxis now have new regulations with a minimum of 6euro even if you travel 10steps down the road.... busses and trains from town to town are usually 20 - 30 euro for a return ticket which is good! You will probably need more money than you think, definatly bring 500e or more, and an umbrella, it may b summer but it WILL rain more than we get sunshine. It can be quite cold also unfortunatly... The irish are great fun tho so it will deffinatly be a memorable holiday! I would recommend going to Killarney in Co.Kerry and Cork City, both great towns, loads to do!

Ireland is pretty expensive to visit. Minimize your costs by staying in Tipperary and day tripping to Dublin.
Another good way to save money is to take a bus trip instead of renting a car. Companies like "Paddywagon" provide cheap multiday trips that include hostel accommodation and handle all the logistics of getting around. If you like to control where you go, then this might not be your cup of tea, but check theses companies out. It could save you a bundle.
For my money, the best you can do is avoid all the tourist destinations and just try to meet up with local Irish people. Outside tourist areas, Irish people are pretty friendly and will be very entertaining and gracious guides to their country.

not in the experience that your making plans on making use of the €4000 to pay on your hotel too. eire is extremely high priced. exceedingly Dublin. If the hotel is paid for already or you're staying with somebody, then that quantity of money would be effective.
