Carotid Vein Angioplasty?

Why do Canadians have to go outside Canada to have Angioplasty performed on their Carotid Neck Veins?

When there is an obstruction in or restriction of any sot on the Coronary Arteries, Angioplasty is a Routine Procedure!

    There's no such thing as the carotid veins. The carotids are arteries. Big difference.

    Carotid stenting, for the average patient, is NO BETTER than traditional surgery. In fact, it carries a higher risk of stroke.

    Medicare (US govt. medical insurance for seniors) only pays for carotid stenting under VERY restricted circumstances. Most private insurances go along.

    Virtually all of the stents we do are as part of a research study.

    Canada's logic is likely much the same.
