why are New Zealand fans celebrating like they have won the world cup?

They've got at least a point that could be vital.

No because that is New Zealand just like Australia they would of been happy to have anything on the score table at least a goal would of been nice against Germany, really shattered me, but good on New Zealand there happy they haven't lost yet =)

Any time a team defies expectations is a cause for celebration. Any time a team shows a dogged performance and demonstrates remarkable improvement is a cause for celebration. There's a reason we Americans consider Saturday's game a "1-1 win" for the U.S. I imagine the Kiwis are feeling the same thing.

It's only the second time they have qualified for the World Cup and they had never won a point until now. There was only 30 seconds left on the clock and they managed an equaliser! Wouldn't you be happy? I'm so happy for New Zealand!

It's been like 28 years since they got a place in the WC. That's a very valuable point to them, considering that they're one of the weakest teams in the WC and snatching a point right at the death was a very good feeling.

Because New Zealand are serious underdogs in this competition where slovakia are quite a decent team.......

Everyone was expecting New Zealand to lose all 3 games and be whipping boys along with Honduras and Australia when in fact they have proved a lot of people wrong

There weren't celebrating as much as a 4th place finish in the EPL

because they're such wild underdogs. this is only their 2nd world cup and this is the first point theyve ever taken. same reason any 12-15 seed goes crazy when they win an ncaa tournament game, even though its only the first round.

Winning a point is much better than nothing ..

It's quite a boost to pick up a goal in added time when you think you've lost, no matter what team you are cheering for.

cause they know this is the farthest their gunna get. mite as well celebrate it to the fullest
