They maybe want to prevent of charging you huge money when you unintendly access the internet.But i think they want their money for subsidy the phone back quicker..

The newer phones are supposed to be for high speed internet.. So what the companies (like verizon) do is make a really nice phone that everyone wants, then makes some extremely expensive data plan to go with it.
