    Let X be a measurement and X(app) be an approximation for X. The relative error is [X- X(app)] / |X| |X| is the absolute value (always take the positive value even if it is negative). The actual error = X-X(app) Example: X=65 X(app) = 64.9 Relative error = (65-64.9) / 65 = 0.1/65 = 0.00154
