I think your ps3 is defective. If its showing a yellow or known as the yellow ring of death you should go and get a replacement. If your warranty has expired, because the warranty only lasts a year, you can pay a fee to get a refurbished one. I don't own a ps3, but I plan to get one so I'm researching before buying. Also just because your ps3 probably malfunctioned, don't get a xbox 360. They fail about 33-35 percent of the time while ps3 only fails about 2-5 percent of the time. Also I got another tip for you, always know what your buying.

You got the YLOD (yellow light of death). Sony charges 145 euros for a fix but only if your warranty is expired. You can fix it for less but you need to find a third party fix. You can also try fixing it yourself but that'll work only with the right tools, otherwise don't even attempt fixing it.
