How do you get from GNR to the Washington Monument in Fallout3?

Kay, I'm doing the quest to try and find dad, and I've spoken to Three Dog at GNR. He's asked me to go and fix his radio antennae at the Washington Monument building. I wandered around for a while trying to find it, and got lost. I made it to Dukov's Place, then walked all the way down to Rivet City, discovering it accidentally. How the HELL do you get to the Washington Monument? Please be specific, and detailed, use location names not just "Oh, the metro station". Do you know how many metro stations there are? Yeah, lots. Thanks.

well i have just begun the game about a week ago. but i played oblivion religiously so theres no really difficult situation for me. what id do in your position is look for ammunition boxes, but if you are unable to find any dont worry. just retrace your steps and exit the museum. doing so will give you the oppurtunity to find ammo, find new weapons. and along the way pick off some enemys to gain experience and level up. another great thing to do is just walk around and discover new areas because you gain 10 exp for each location. i know this is long but whattever :p hope it helps :D

    From Dupont Circle:

Leave via the rear entrance, go north down the stairs, through the wooden door, then down the stairs to Dupont Circle. Drop off the ledge and head down the dirt ramp by the walkway overpass. Ignore the overpass and head toward the sunken roadway. You'll find a pack of Ghouls there; shoot the rusty bus to make it explode, damaging or killing the Ghouls and destroying any vehicles in the area (make sure you're not standing by one!). Follow the sunken roadway to a door with some graffiti reading "Mall Outpost" beside it. Open the door to the Collapsed Car Tunnel.

Follow the tunnel to a large chamber with two exits. There are Ghouls here, so if you don't feel like fighting them, Sneak around the western side of the chamber, opening the First Aid Box on the way to the southwest exit. If you do feel like fighting the Ghouls, be careful about where your bullets fly: an exploding vehicle down here will most likely spell your demise! Alternatively, just stay at the entrance to the chamber and shoot a vehicle to take out the Ghouls in a nice big explosion.

Follow the steps, taking out the Ghoul on the way to the door to Dupont Circle. Head through and go right to Dupont Circle Station. Proceed through the office and check the cabinets for Caps, and activate a Protectron to deal with the two Super Mutants in the concourse so you can run past them. Open the metal door in the alcove in the southwest wall, then head into the maintenance tunnel.

Go through the hatch at the end of the tunnel to reach a train tunnel. Go south, then turn right to cross the tracks. Go north to the barricaded alcove and quickly kill the Raider there before he awakens. Check his corpse and the nearby shelves for ammo, then go south through the door next to the red light. Go down the steps in the next area, kill the Raider there, then check the alcove to the north for some Chems and a Blood Pack.

Take the hall south to an office, and use your Science skill to hack the wall terminal to disarm the turrets ahead. If you can't hack the computer, you'll just have to shoot down the turrets. Head down the scaffolding, tossing grenades down to kill any Raiders you find on the way. When you reach the bottom, head through the utility gate to a sewer tunnel. Go south through the door to Metro Central.

    Metro Central

Head through the next corridor and you'll see two Raiders battling some Ghouls. If you want more XP, kill everyone; if not, let the Ghouls kill the Raiders, then shoot them. Check the weapon caches here for ammo, Chems, Frag Grenades, a Chinese Assault Rifle, and a 10mm Pistol, then go east to a metro tunnel with a high level of radiation. Take one of the parallel tunnels to the mezzanine and go south into the "Museum Station" tunnel to the right of the destroyed carriages.

Some Vicious Dogs will emerge from this tunnel and attack you, so be ready to gun them down; they may get distracted by a nearby Ghoul, allowing you to run past the lot of them. Check the tripod light for some Ammo Boxes, then head to the southern end of the tunnel. Follow the graffiti into a passage to the door to Museum Station.

Leave the storage room and kill the Ghoul on your way to the stairs that are lit-up. Climb the stairs and activate the electrical switch on the right wall to open the trap door at the top. Kill the Raider here by the pool table, and check the room for some Cherry Bombs, Chems, and a Grognak the Barbarian comic that boosts your Melee Weapons by 1 point when read.

Go east from here to another tunnel and the Red Line. Go between the metal columns up to the Museum Station mezzanine; you'll be fighting Raiders along the way. Kill more Raiders at the escalators. Drop down from the balcony and go east to the metal gate to finally reach the Mall.

You should see the Capitol Building in the distance (where Super Mutants love to hang out) and the grounds of the Mall to the left, which are also populated with Super Mutants galore. Turn southeast and run to the Museum of Technology's wooden double doors and head inside.
