Can you find out if files were copied on a computer?

Our enginer quit, no notice, and he now works for our direct competitor. We were bidding a job and the customer sent us a sketch of what they were looking for.......and it was OUR SKETCH that had not been distributed yet. So, we KNOW he took our files. We are a family company of 5 and this is going to kill us. Can we find proof that he took the files by looking at a history in the computer? Dirty, dirty, dirty. I might puke.

I suppose it depends on HOW he took the files.

If he EMailed them to your competitor, you could look in the SENT folder.

If, on the other hand, he copied them to a memory stick, it would be extremely difficult.

You would need to get a professional computer expert, who would probably be expensive, and might not find evidence anyway.

    Then again, he just might.

    Talk to him first.

What about asking your competitor where he got the files from?

Tell him they are your files, and you might sue him for damages if he doesn't come up with a satisfactory answer.

If he knew what he was doing he copied them to a flash drive, and there's no way to tell. Speak to your legal representative (attorney, law firm, etc.) - this is clearly theft and, possibly, industrial espionage. He could go to prison for it.
