I have no idea what monson is, but my favorite place to see the fireworks is actually right on the Mass Ave. Bridge over the Charles River. If you get there a couple hours early, you can scope out a seat on the railing and see the fireworks with absolutely no obstructions. It reflects over the water, too, and the sight is just breath-taking!
Don't drive. Take the T to Hynes Convention Center on the Green Line, then walk north on Mass Ave. 'til you get to the bridge, and park it wherever you can find a seat. I may see you there!
Some people might tell you to go to the Hatch Shell, which is a big lawn in front of a stage with musical performances by the river. But this area gets crazy, crazy crowded and you have to be there by noon to get a seat. But the space on the bridge is spacious, and you'll have plenty of room for yourself.
I have to add that the fireworks in Boston are some of the best I've ever seen.
