Should I be concerned about these parakeet behaviors?
We're taking care of a neighbor's parakeets while they are away. I've noticed a couple of things that make me wonder. One is that they peck at their food tray. What I mean is that they bite at the edges of it with their beaks. Another is that they keep pulling little feathers out. Should I be concerned?
They don't have anything in their cage for entertainment. I'm not going to go out and spend any money on them (they aren't my birds), but I was wondering if there is something I can put in their cage to give them something to do.

Biting at their food dish is normal, and to some extent is something they do when they are bored.
Plucking feathers is usually a sign of stress though, and can very easily get worse. :( Make sure their cage is in a quiet place and that they are getting enough sleep/ covered cage time. If they were on any kind of schedule before, make sure you are following that as well.
If they are just bored, you can try moving their toys around in their cage, that will give them something to do. Also, try tearing up newspaper and putting a pile of it in the bottom of their cage, or even loosely wrapping up some bird seen in a newspaper ball to give them something stimulating to do and play with.
Best of luck.
