How many of you were around in the 1960's when young 14 year old girls were so desperate they were sticking knitting needles up themselves, going to back-street abortionists or taking weird cocktails of drugs to rid themselves of unwanted pregnancies the upshot being horrible injuries, inability to conceive again septicaemia or sometimes death, I grant you nowadays with the pill, the morning after pill and the many other types of contraception abortion should not be necessary unless someone has been raped, or a child would suffer severely if born through some horrible malfunction, but I was around then and that was why abortion was legalised. It was never ever intended that abortion be available on demand but that in extreme cases where it could save life or prevent suffering it should be there.

Having seen how that played out is it any wonder that so many of us are extremely wary of legalising euthanasia for humans.
