Can I live on the air force base while my Husband is in boot camp or Tech school?

My husband is talking with a recruiter about joining the air force. I know housing is a privilege. But when can we live in base housing? Can my son and I live on base while my husband is in boot camp or tech school? I know he can not live with us, but can we live on base?

While at basic training the answer to that is without question no. His orders to go to basic training will state dependents not authorized.

No Tech school might be different. I know in the Army for certain jobs (AKA MOS) if the school is long enough then you can get your orders amended to state dependents authorized. I would be willing to be bet the Air Force is very similar.

During BCT no you do not qualify for military housing at all, he will receive BAH w/dependents based on the zip code he resided at when he enlisted.

For Tech School if it is longer than 21 weeks in one location then the military can authorize the move to that location, but he would not be able to live with you until after around week 9. You would not qualify for housing because you are there less than 6 months which is the minimum housing lease contract. But the military would still pay for the move there and you can find a place out in town. There can actually be a wait for housing that is over 1 year in some locations. You can live out in town and use the BAH to pay for rent & utilities.

    Nope,

While in Basic and Tech School he will be paid a housing allowance to provide you a place to live.

The military will only move you to his Tech School, is the training is more than 26 weeks for a single course.

IE: multiple courses that add up to 26 weeks, do not count.

There are ver very Tech Schools that are over 26 weeks long.

not while in basic training at all.

for AIT only if he has accompaied orders and there is an open unit. his schooling must be at least 6 months long before he can get accompaneid orders.

afterwards.. Base housing is only an option if there is room.. waiting lists to get in can be a year long.

No. You can't get housing until he's at his permanent duty station. He will receive Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) during BMT and Tech School, based on the zip code of where he enlisted.

No it is not allowed until he gets to his first duty station. They will give you BAH which is money to get a place. They don't have people live with someone in training because it is not there duty station.
