It won't sound the same as distortion on an electric guitar but, if you have an acoustic/electric guitar, you can plug it into a distortion pedal or an amplifier that has distortion (gain nob) and try it out. It will sound like a distorted acoustic guitar. If you do not have an acoustic/electric that will plug into an amplifier, then the only way to get distortion would be by using a microphone and that, I would not recommend. It won't sound good and you could easily get feedback on the mic.

Depends on the quality of your pick up, really. Or how lucky you get with the EQ/Gain knobs. If you have a decent piezo, then I guess it could sound nice. Just make sure you get the knob-twiddling just right, really, to the sound you want it to have. I've never had a situation where it goes horribly wrong, although first answer is right. It still has differences sound-wise to a normal distorted electric, though. But the idea of OD-ing an acoustic is interesting. Good luck with you.
