My husband is in a substance abuse hospital. He is wanting me not to tell the councellor everything he has b?
been doing. His daughter and I are both worried sick about him. We want him to get well and get a good solid diagnosis. This way he can get the help he needs. We both agree he is bipolar. His daughter is a Nurse, I trust what she says. He is very convincing and we are afraid he is talking his way through. He has only been in there since Monday. He is wanting to come home on Friday. I want to help him not hurt him. He can make me feel guilty even when I know I am only helping him. Is this normal for someone in treatment to do this?

This is TOUGH LOVE time.
He won't get better by you continuing to cover for him, to help fool his counselor, or his boss.
If you want him to get better, please tell the counselor EVERYTHING. tell the councilor you think he is bipolar, but apparently that is not yet the diagnosis of a psychiatrist or psychology.
Your husband may do or say anything in the world to make you feel guilty. that is the substance abuse/addiction talking. You have to be the adult here. He won't like it, but it is his best chance for him to get the help he needs, to get him healthy enough for you 2 to have a healthy relationship.
Sadly, it is not just normal for people in treatment to do this, is is classic, by-the-book behavior of someone in any sort of rehab.
Don't buy into the guilt trip. You didn't make him a substance abuser ( even if he says you are responsible,) It might be good for you to start going to Al-anon to not buy in to his quilt crap.
good luck.

Yes it's normal if he doesn't think he NEEDS to be in there. Tell the counselor everything they need to know in order to help him. You can't help him with lies and half truths. Stay strong for him, if he can't do it for himself! He needs you.
