Mets fans, would you entertain trading Carlos Beltran?

Only ONE reporter I've heard actually expressed this out loud... EVERYBODY else probably thinks its a ridiculous idea to trade 'arguably" the best CF in the game....

HOWEVER, thinking about it.... the Mets are going good, the chemistry is great... And FRANKLY, Carlos Beltran as good as he is... goes into cruise control a lot..... especially when he's NOT 100%, has been sort of a 'life-less' player at times.... and the FIRST year with the Mets he underachieved horribly....

I don't think this would really happen, I think when he's on, he's GREAT ... BUT, I'm not totally against moving him.

(Plus I STILL CANNOT forget him striking out with the bat on his shoulder against the Cards in '06!!!!)

He's not tradeable at this point....but I wouldn't play him in CF at this point. I would give him starts in RF, even LF, and I would use him off the bench. As a manager, I would like he luxury of having Beltran available.

With the knee still not proven, I would like to see if he could still steal bases and cover ground in the OF. But going into Sept..even in the post season I would prefer to have him....another player would probably not be available,I mean a player at that level..pitcher or position player

However, I would try to bring in Cliff Lee for the remainder of the season, hoping to make a run at the World Series....then sign Lee to a multi year deal if possible.

via fact the mets no longer view themselves as contenders, they have desperate to decrease the ineffective weight of Carlos Beltran. he's 34 with some well being problems, yet he must be an surprising addition to a set like the Phillies, who choose a genuine exceeded bat to guard Ryan Howard. additionally the Mets are projected to lose $70 million this 12 months as a business enterprise, making Beltran's earnings an argument. So as a substitute of paying Beltran the mets will look to a minimum of get a prospect. yet in my opinion i think of once you're a mets fan a commerce of Beltran to a contender for an better prospect could be welcomed.

I would wait for him to come back because if they don't wait, they won't get fair value for him in return. I don't think they should trade an outfielder because it's a much bigger upgrade having a backup like Pagan (which should really be Francouer in my opinion), rather than Chris Carter. Also, all they would trade Beltran for is a pitcher, and I don't really think they need a pitcher (Takahashi, Dickey, and Pelfrey have been great). Also, Niese has been good except for his last start and Johan is still a top pitcher. Unless they can get Roy Oswalt and some prospects in return, I'm against the Mets trading Beltran.

I would trade Carlos Beltran; I really like Pagan... I would give Beltran a couple of games at CF to see if he is being his good self, but if he isn't trade him!

I think that if they traded him they could get a top starting pitcher or a couple of amazing relief pitchers or another centerfielder, one player I would want to see on the Mets is John Hamilition.

And OMG I will never forget him looking at 3 pitches down the middle... uh.

I would not trade Beltran because he is still the best option for the Mets in Center field plus he has a big contract which no one would take on

  • He's still a good player but really nobody would want an injury plagued old player. Who you going to trade him for? Even if there is somebody who would want him, he's not worth much. Unless he comes back and puts up crazy numbers than his value is down. Time to move on from 2006.
