Can an antivirus program purchased at Best Buy remove a virus all ready in computer?

My friend has a virus in his computer. Or something like it. He keeps getting a security alert that seems to have taken over his computer. I was wondering. If he purchased an anti virus program from Best Buy or one of those from Walmart, would this type of program remove the virus or security alert that has affected his computer? One program is the Anti virus Spy Sweeper and the other is the Kaspersky Anti Virus 2010.

Update:

Some suggested he down load free anti virus programs from the internet. He tried doing this but virus will not let him download anything.

Greetings. My name's Sanjay Patel, and I currently hold an honorary Master's degree in the field of Computer Science. I am aware of, and have personal knowledge related to your question. There are computer maintenance businesses which are probably in your area, however they come at the cost of hiring a professional to enter your home. There may also be some local destinations where you can drop off your computer and wait to have a technician look at it. These options can often be costly, and pretty inconvenient. The answer to this question can probably be found doing a little extra research on Google.

A well-running computer can be a hard thing to maintain. From my experience, there is but only One software which is reputable- and consistently reliable for healing sick, slow computers. Reimage™ is a world-renown, easy to use software designed by Forensic scientists and made for the average person. This thing will fix literally just about ANY problem you could possibly be having with your PC. Reimage was recommended to me by a Professor during my 2nd year of Graduate school.

There are free malware-scanners that are very effective. I have cleaned many viruses on different computers without buying anything, unless you just Have to go out and Buy something, LOL...

Below in the links are the free-scanners I use...You should also have a good free anti-virus for real time protection like Avast Free or Microsoft Security Essentials, unless you want to Buy and I would suggest a Suit like Kaspersky 2010 or Norton 2010. You can take each of these for a free-trial spin to see which one you like better...

((((chick)))) personally I would reformat. But Joel seems to know what he's talking about. If you can't make head nor tail of his instructions, email him and see if you can get some clarity. In case you are more comfortable hearing this from someone you know...(me <3) .. everyone is right, there is no need to purchase any antivirus software. There are plenty of good programs out there for free. these guys seem to have a good handle on them. (((( I <3 computer geeks))))

o answer your question, yes, of course you can appeal. Keep in mind all insurance companies must follow the rules and laws of their state and they fully understand the legal implications of cancelling and non-renewing a customer. They have huge legal departments that approve everything before they do it. If they don't have a legal drop, they don't drop.

Being a State Farm agent for many, many years, I do not believe you. In over 22 years, I have NEVER seen a customer cancelled for one at fault claim, alone. Not even if they've had that claim within the first 6 months of the policy.

You need to read your letter of non-renewal VERY closely. What were the circumstances of the at-fault claim. Was road rage, drag racing, reckless driving, excessive speed involved? There's more to this story.

As for "No speeding tickets as we use attorney to get these dismissed." You'd better go to the DMV and have your Motor Vehicle report run. I see this far too often. Customers actually believe their tickets are dismissed and what they don't realize is they're not dismissed, the points are just lowered. That's a real problem with most insurance companies. Insurance companies don't go by points, they go by whether there was a ticket or not. Tickets still show up even when the points are lowered. Just the fact you stated "....we use attorney to get these dismissed" leads me to believe there's certainly a high risk problem here because of the fact you have to hire attorney's because someone has a speeding problem. Clearly, your insurance company has caught on to this fact.

Finally, credit. The dreaded credit report. It has EVERYTHING to do with your insurance policies and risk. If your credit is not where it should be, insurance companies feel you're more likely to make a claim in order to make money. So, in combination with a theft, an at-fault accident and possibly poor credit scores coupled with the fact you're hiring attorneys to supposedly get rid of (what sounds like) numerous speeding tickets...well, I think I understand the non-renewal.

    Don,

One ticket every two years or so? Statistically, that's considered numerous to an insurance company. An insurance company frowns on one ticket in three years. If you have two in three years, you're on the fence. One ticket, one at fault accident and one theft claim makes you ineligible for almost every preferred company and high risk for the rest. I would still recommend you pull your Motor Vehicle Report, I belive you'll be surprised.

Depending on the exact issue at hand, a thorough Google search may be be your best bet at resolving for yourself whatever is causing dysfunction. Nonetheless, as a computer technician who runs his own business troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, and optimizing computers... I can probably guide you in the right direction. However, without having your PC directly at my fingertips, I can only make general suggestions. In this case, I would surely check out the highly esteemed world-class Reimage software from https://tr.im/ReimageRepair ..

When people come into our shop and drop off their PC for repair, the first thing we do is run an initial diagnostic. For this function, I use Reimage exclusively. In many cases, I am able to diagnose very quickly what is making their computer run slow, or is giving them the crashes/freezes/errors/grief that brought them to me in the first place. After the diagnostic, in a majority of cases, Reimage is able to remedy All problems and replace any corrupted Windows files. I then proceed to charge a handsome fee for my services that took me all but 30-60 minutes to complete. Obviously sometimes I must work more, but often this is all it takes. It is a very powerful tool that would likely put me and others in my industry out of business if more people knew of it. So don't tell anyone lol, and Good Luck with your PC.

I have kaspersky. Some viruses can block your antivirus. It depends on how long its been there. I had to remove all my files, place them on a zip drive and then run them one by one after installing the antivirus.

I would try to run one of the free ones like AVG first.

    http://free.avg.com/us-en/226284?cmpid=fs_hp_testa...

If that doesn't work he will have to take all of his files, copy them to a zip drive , reset his computer then reinstall all the files one by one to find out which one has the virus. I haven't had a problem since. BTW i bought kaspersky after I got this virus. When I got it I had Mcaffee.

    Try the free download.

How To Remove A Virus That Caused Damage To Your Computer? -- https://reimagefix.im/

  • 1 decade ago

Yes, it could remove whatever malicious bugs he happened to pick up.

It would be best to reformat the hard drive, and start with a clean install. You can do this with your Original OS disc.

If this friend is looking for comprehensive protection and no maintenance, I would suggest getting Norton AntiVirus.

If they are willing to tweak around with settings then I would recomend avast (its free!!)

Not likely. Better choice would be to use Antivir, it's free and far more aggressive than other antivirus software that fails to detect a large percentage of viruses and are slow to catch new viruses. Also I would recommend the free version of Superantispyware to remove any spyware/adware on the computer. Here are the links:
