Historically, the 4G63t engine in the Evo IX bears more weight than the 4B11t engine found in the Evo X. Introduced in 1987, the 4G63 has been used in numerous cars under the Mitsubishi and Chrysler brand. Well known is the turbo version. It's been used in the rally world which Mitsubishi dominated when Tommi Makinen was still with Mitsubishi. It's the engine preferred by a lot of the tuners because it's so easy to work on and parts are so readily available. The 4B11, developed by a joint venture of Mitsubishi, Chrysler and Hyundai was introduced in 2005. Although the engine tuned by Mitsubishi is the best of them, it still needs to prove its worth. So far, it's holding its own. As for me, I'm more biased towards the 4G63 that's why I got the IX MR. Need I say more?

A whole lot of cars are faster than the Evo. It's just fairly difficult to find a car that is stock and costs less than $40k that's faster than the Evo. It won't be as comfortable, but some of the fastest cars I know of for less than $40k are a used Corvette C6 and a Lotus Esprit V8 Turbo. Practically all the supercars are faster than the Evo, and even most of the heavy Mercedes (the fast ones, anyway) go from 0-60 faster than an Evo.

IX all the way.
The 4G63 is the most wining four cylinder of all time. The 4B11t is still unproven.
