SEO & Domain name question...?

If, for example, I want to optimise my site for the search phrase "web design uk", is it better to have the domain name webdesignuk.com, or webdesign.co.uk?

Note; I'm aware I could have both and have a re-direct, but google would ignore this. So which would be the best domain name for my website to be on?

    Hi

Good question .I think you should use webdesignuk.com because the .com name is perceived as being more global as opposed to .co.uk.

However for better results here are some tips to search engine optimisation especially with google

...you should build your domain name with your main keyword....which you are trying to get done here

....Your main keyword should be in the header of your web page preferably the first line

....Your headline has should have the main keyword and this page should be hard coded

....You should also link your main keyword to an article content related to your keyword. I would suggest you write an article and get it published. this help to improve the rankings for your site.

bottom line is to have your main keyword in the relevant places and your domain name is one of them. a dot com name is better than a dotuk except you are targeting a local market

I hope you find this helpful

Great Questions. Google has surprisingly changed directions on this one. I used to recommend that my clients put keywords in their domain... but now I've seen it actually hurt rankings if it the domain name doesn't relate to the company. You no longer need keyword in your domain name. It's better to choose your domain based on your company name and brand... and a shorter domain is best.

If you have already occupied .com domain then you dont need to buy & country specific domains. To optimize your website in other countries just focus on submission on local directories & have a decent link building with the websites situated there.

    OR

If you want to buy new domains then webdesign.co.uk would be more preferable.

    Hope query is solved

it really doesn't matter at all, Google gives little reward for domain extensions.

however, domain age does play a big factor in ranking. if you can get hold of a good old TLD with your keywords on it the better for you.

i would suggest, you concentrate on creating unique content, keeping your code clean and getting as much links as you can.

Set up the site, get it making a few dollars and then try to sell it. You will get more for a site that is already making money than just for the domain itself. Unless you let it age that is.
