Most girls my age are NOT sweet and innocent this is the age that we tend to change and have more provocative styles, and we are just a little on the wacky side I mean most girls around this age have had boyfriends (am I right?) and when they break your heart than you and friends think of many way to not be "sweet" to them (this is what I believe most people my age think)

My 7th grade teacher had me read To Kill a Mockingbird, Treasure Island, and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Mockingbird's now my favorite novel. I'm kinda ish-y about the other two.

I read The Pilgrim's Progress in fifth grade and I'm not a huge fan of it.

The Great Gatsby is a favorite of mine. Jane Eyre, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, The Picture of Dorian Gray, The Phantom of the Opera, and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow were all pretty good. The Last of the Mohicans, The Call of the Wild, and The Jungle Book I'm not a fan of.

I tried reading Moby-Dick twice but only made it about 8 chapters in both times before stopping.

Oh, and I'm 13, by the way.

Edit (for the others you listed):

The Catcher in the Rye is another one of my favorite books. However, I actually like Salinger's book Franny and Zooey better. It's spiritual, and I don't know how interesting you'd find it, but I love it.

Great Expectations, Frankenstein, Dracula, A Tale of Two Cities, and A Christmas Carol are all great.

I haven't read Crime and Punishment, but I'm reading another novel by Dostoevsky right now, The Brothers Karamazov, which is great. He has some interesting characters and ideas.

I didn't fall in love with 1984 like I have with some books (I'm not a fan of dystopian novels), but I think it's an important book that everyone should read, along with Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and probably Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. I haven't read BNW, but it, F451, and 1984 are the 3 big dystopian novels.

I read Black Beauty as a kid and it was all right.

@ SOS. Pfff. You sound like my mother.

When I was that age, I was all over the animal books. So, Watership Down, Call of the Wild, and The Jungle Book(s). And I loved Little Women as well. Still do. And The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, because it's freakin' hilarious.

There are some really good books on those list but none that I'd recommend for a girl 13-15; because I like girls 13-15 to remain innocent and sweet. Well, except, Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn.

@ soaked to the bone - zott! - you sound like some old well lubricated butt-hole.

To - loving him - girls your age that are NOT sweet and innocent are mostly called tramps and are not in the perspective of my answer.

To Kill a Mockingbird is my favorite book of all time, so that is my first pick.

I also like, Heidi, Black Beauty, Little Women, A Prayer for Own Meany, and Watership Down.

You might also try another of my favorites, A Little Princess.

I hate Jules Verne and disliked Tess of the D'urbervilles. The others sound great. I've read a lot of the ones you listed ( and it's a long list..LOL). Pride and Prejudice, Rebecca, and The Count of Monte Cristo are my favorite books.

To Kill A Mockingbird!! (well, I'm probably recommending this to you because the book was written in my town..lol) and I also love Little Women!
