Can you feed a specific type of people food (like liver) to help increase a PCV?

I know liver provides a lot of iron, but is there some grocery store food that i can add to the prescribed vitamins to help my 15 yr old Shitzu, whom is an intact female, that will help her build red blood cells. Her PCV is 28% extremely low. She needs dental surgery, but I'll be giving high vite vitamins, till her PCV comes up. Surgery now is not an option. I'm just curious if I can give a few veggie or meat treats 1-3 times per day to assist her. I am a veterinary technician, unfortunately I am nutritionally handicapped! Help?

Update:

Thanks for some of the sort of helpful questions. More about me - I am a vet tech, i haven't been able to work as such for 4 years because I'm disabled. I didn't renew my license because of money issues.

yes uhave2be I know how low it is compared to normal. Apparently, I did see a vet that's how I know she has a low PCV duh?!? And thanks TJ for the concern but all her bloodwork is excellent except the PCV, and she has to have a dental (she has approx. 6 teeth that have to come out so in 2 wks the vet will recheck it. Now Marie no random people on the web r not a better source, but I know what advice to take and what to leave. I also thought it would be an interesting ? so dont berate me for asking a question. What a jerk!!!!

Update 2:

By the way I forgot to mention I just got her from a neglectfull owner. All her fur was matted and she was swarming with fleas. That has something to do with the low pcv she's probably been bitten alive for years and she is always dehydrated. I plan to take good care of her. She just got her 1st shot in about 14 yrs.

With a PCV of 28% (low normal is 37%) there is something most likely going on such as liver disease or cancer.

I would put a dental surgery WAY low on my list of priorities with this dog and be more concerned as to why her PCV was so low.

Since you are a "vet tech" surely you know the only way to effectively get a dogs PCV up is to do a blood transfusion. Surely the "vet" you work for would have told you that.

Um? A vet tech, who works with vets, and should have access to veterinary books, thinks random people on the internet are a better source?

Just give what the vet suggests, or contact a vet school to ask about other options.

    key words: 15 Years old!

Enjoy her while her quality of life is still acceptable.

I'll let you figure out the rest for yourself.
