A lot of Madonna fans seems to just post only sales when it comes to comparisons. However, she's only successful in the terms of sales today. She only influence a tidbit of fashion in the 80s. In terms of vocal ability, Mariah Carey would be the most successful, being able to adjust to other vocal types (She's an alto but can probably go soprano if she wanted to). Dance would go to Janet Jackson. Most popular song goes to Celine Dion (My Heart Will Go On) Aretha is considered the Queen of Soul music and a huge inspiration to many artists down the line. And there's tons more artists that would be successful in different categories.

There is no one true successful female artist. Certain artists will shine in one area and others will shine in another. It's all based on opinions (Certain Madonna fans who think her sales make her the most successful but that's not true at all. She rise in certain categories/countries and fail in others)

and LMFAO @ people dividing success in terms of talent. Success = Tour grossing albums/records sales, charting, movie grossing . etc. NOT by talent. Give me a break! If that were the case Janet Jackson would be the most successful of them all.

1. Madonna (Sold about 200 million records worldwide, Tours - her last tour grossed $408 million WW)

2. Celine Dion (about 185 million records worldwide, Tours - she has the 9th highest grossing tour of all time by any solo artist)

Oh and FYI all Mariah has is record sales and #1 charting. That's all. But Janet Jackson got her beat as one of the most successful female artist of all time. She has the tours, movie grossing as well.

EDIT- No where near as successful as Janet's sold-out tours. And yes, it's a good of enough reason that she's more successful than Mariah. Critics agree. Janet is actually considered the 2nd most successful female artist of all time by many critics.

EDIT- Idc if you didn't bring Janet up. LMAO! Just understand that Mariah isn't more successful than her and definitely not remotely as successful as Madonna and Celine Dion.

Well Madonna out sold Mariah in album sales. Mariah has 200 Million. Madonna has like 400 Million.

Madonna has the most successful tour out of all of them.

Mariah broke more records than Madonna, including more #1's, Platinum singles. The more important records.

I think Madonna is Overrated. Yeah she sales more than Mariah & Celine & Whitney, but does she have a voice? Not really. Just like Britney Spears.. Madonna and Britney sell more because they can entertain with their dance music; Even though Madonna can belt a little and Britney can't sing and is fixed in the studio.

I don't hate Madonna but I think it's unfair that AMAZING singer put so much effort in singing their best notes to get fans and Madonna does her weak belts & make dance music & sales more.

IDK why powerful singers even bother singing anymore? Auto-tune/Fake singing is the new way to sing. Ex. Ke$ha, Lady Gaga, etc. The chart don't care about amazing singers anymore. You have suck at singing to make it. And Justin Bieber is just a lost case lol

She has done so much in music.

She is so inspiring and influential

Her videos are mind blowing.

I got all teary today, when I was watching her in I Get Lonely (a song I used to listen to a lot when I was down) it's one of my all time favourite music videos. I haven't seen it in a while until today. She just breaks it down so beautifully and full of real emotion and soul.

She is such a brilliant artist.

A truly incredible dancer, singer, and performer

She's so full of emotion, power, beauty, and creativity.

It takes talent to do that, and she shows her talent way pass a 100%.

Even if Janet Jackson isn't the most successful by critics, to me she is the best and most deserving.

She is so underrated in a lot of aspects.

The true Queen of Pop and R&B can get me crying.
