You need to treat your shooting arm like a catapult.
Think about a catapult. It only works when it flings the object on a straight up and down swing plane. you can't have the catapult on a 10 degree lean and hit your target efficiently.
Your non-shooting hand is for AIM and BALANCE.
Next is to make sure you put good spin on the ball. You want to keep your wrist kocked (yahoo censors it when I use a C.) until you get to the top of your jump and you extend your shooting arm. If you flick your wrist right, you'll see the ball spinning back towards you and the shot will look and feel good. Back spin on the ball helps the ball stay on it's flight path and also aids in working off the rim.
A lot of your distance can come from the flick of your wrist.
In my experience, and most people will tell you I'm a good shooter without me having to do it, it's all about the flick of the wrist. That's the X-factor. A proper release will also promote a healthy arc to the shot. If the arc is too low, you actually cut down your acceptable flight path for the ball to go in.
Even though I just said most of your distance will come from your wrist, you will need to make sure you utilize your lower body too. If you don't have a strong foundation, you'll never be truly successful.
It's hard to just show you how to be a good shooter in a post.
One thing I used to do a lot was shoot in the dark at night. Your eyes adjust well enough once you're out there for a while and you get a better feel for how a successful shot feels. Feeling is important too.

thayellowmonkey has the proper proposal. I have in no way had a capturing educate or coaching from any educate, but if I'm capturing and I seize hearth I can gentle it up. All it takes is train, however I would possibly not lie, it is going to take a couple of years so that you can get fairly well. I simply watched the NBA gamers shoot and I could comply with their kind. Also a few recommendation from Reggie Miller whilst he could speak on TNT. Practice like loopy. I have not performed basketball in see you later and it is killing me. I used to train from four-10 pm day-to-day.

I was the exact same way about 15 years ago, a lot of it has to do with how big you are and how much upper body strength you have, but always focus on keeping your elbow in close to your body (almost on your hip), Keep the ball off of the palm of your hand so that its only on your finger tips, keep your fingers spread wide, extend your elbow, and snap your wrist on the release (follow through), as the ball leave your fingertips it should have backwards rotation, which can help get you the shooters role. try to practicw shooting the same way every single time so that you get so used to it that you wont even have to think about it, and it will feel natural.
