Green Dot Walmart Scam?

I received a letter from Green Dot titled "unclaimed property due diligence Notification". The letter says that I have a Walmart gift card or money card with a balance of $85 that has been inactive and they want to send me a check for that amount. They need a copy of documents to "proof" who I am for the check such as driver's license, passport, military id, etc. Then sign below and a check will be mailed for the amount.

This sounds fishy. I can't remember having a card for that amount. What throws me off though is them asking for a copy of a valid, non expired official ID. Hum...I searched online and Green Dot seems to be a troublemaker, but didn't find information about this particular case. Any help?

Ask yourself this question...how would they know it is YOUR Walmart card?

Well, is the chance of getting $85 worth the chance of having your identity stolen?

    No.

It is a legitimate company and fairly large also. I can't recommend their cards though. They are expensive. You are better off with a regular (bank issued) credit or debit card.
