Monitor isn't getting a signal.?

My Dell computer simply stopped working the other day, and after checking everything, i had simply determined that getting a completely new computer would work. So i bought a new computer, with new EVERYTHING, except for the monitor / DVI cable. Everything is new, mind, but i had the same problem. The computer completely works and runs, and the monitor is getting power. But it's blank - no signal. I tried using my friends DVI cable that completely worked - blank. I brought my monitor to my friend, and he plugged it into his computer - worked perfectly. Used my friends monitor with my computer, blank. What is wrong?

Update:

The new computer i built myself (i am a very experienced builder) and everything is working just fine. The video card is an nVidia 9800 GTX+

Well, there could be a number of issues here. If you are using a graphics card you might need to install that drivers for the graphics card from their website before you can use a monitor on it, so plug your monitor into you motherboard and not your gpu (graphics card) and then install the drivers and see if it works. If that's not your problem then your screen resolution might be messed up. If your screen resolution on the computer is set to high for the monitor to handle, you will see nothing. So you would have to hook up another monitor to your comp and change the resolution to whatever your monitor can handle. But other than that, I would just check the simple things.

I would suspect some obscure EMI or Electromagnetic Interference is going on. Did you try putting it i a different room/place and powering it on? Is there some heavy machinery nearby, or something else out of the ordinary.....otherwise, it might be X-files stuff!!!...seen any green men???

Did you buy your computers from a manufacturer, or did you build them yourself? Also, do they have dedicated graphics cards, or do they use shared memory?
