Desexing my dog........................?

I want to get my dog desexed, but its going to cost at least $230, which i don't have, even if i put him on cheap supermarket food for a while to save money, does anyone know if there are places people can go to get it done cheaper? Preferably around sydney or forster? Any help would be good cos i really need 2 get him done

Update:

Garrett-maybe the reason i can afford the $200+ strait up is because i spend over $100 on just his food alone, which is why i mentioned cheap supermarket food. And FYI, my dog is not horny at all, i just want to do ther right thing and get him fixed. So take your useless imformation somewhere else

You may want to look into how much the RSPCA clinic in Yagoona charges to desex (neuter) a dog. However, proceeds from the clinic go towards saving homeless dogs and cats so there may not be much of a difference in the prices charged by your local vets. The Animal Welfare League (Sydney) has a clinic in West Hoxton. Another thought would be to look into the charges at the University of Sydney Camden Clinic (Phone: +61 2 9351 2222). Here in the States, university clinics/hospitals charge a bit less than private practices and have state-of-the-art facilities.

If you can hang on for awhile, there's a possibility that a low cost spay/neuter clinic will open near you in the not-so-distant future. The first one opens in Hobart, which is a bit too far unless you're planning a trip to Tasmania. :o) However, ..."Animal welfare activist Jan Cameron, Australia’s fourth-richest woman, wants to set up free desexing and microchipping clinics for dogs and cats across Australia to stop thousands of unwanted animals being killed each year. In a move expected to cost millions of dollars, the reclusive Ms Cameron, 57, founder of the Kathmandu retail chain, plans to open her first clinic in Hobart in partnership with the Animal Welfare League within the next two months." I realize this information isn't too helpful at the moment but it's a heads up.

    Hope this helps.

The average person doesn't get it done really cheap there, most of the time they won't take already owned pets and do it. What they do is sometimes offer clinics where they will do it for a day maybe twice a year. Usually it's the vets that are volunteering their time for it and the fees charged are for the anesthesia and products used. The societies will do the neuter/spaying on the animals they adopt out, that's part of the adoption cost. The vast majority of pet owners are paying about the same price you are over here. Cats are cheaper, but still up around $100 for a ;male and $150 for a female.

Carecredit.com. Have a rummage sale. Or save up to pay for the surgery. Just make sure he can never get loose to impregnate a dog in the meantime.

Desexing means to remove the genetalia and the body parts pertaining to the gender such as uterus, ovaries, vagina, penis, testicles, etc. Spaying and neutering doesn't desex the dog. You are just removing the ovaries and uterus or testicles.

Sometimes you can get low cost spay/neuter programs. Call shelters in your area to see if your dog qualifies. Mine didn't, so I paid $200(something like that).

try calling other vets in your area and see what they charge.

When I called around 5 years ago to get my dog neutered, one vet quoted $250-- to neuter a male under 10 pds!.. the vet I went to charged $65.

If you couldn't afford your dog's expenses, you shouldn't have gotten one in the first place. Do it by a vet or deal with his horniness.
