There was a series that aired on The WB (now CW) called "Young Americans".
It starred Katherine Moennig as Jake (Jacqueline) Pratt, a teenage girl who disguises herself as a boy to get the attention of her absent mother. Took place at a boarding school and there was a school rowing team in the series.

Yes, Young Americans. It wasn't intended to be a mini-series, it was just canceled after 8 episodes. Dumb network idea since 10 years later people still ask about it!
