Stay inside forbidden city, there is plenty of rooms inside.

I recommend Days Inn Forbidden City Beijing. Open in July 2007, Days Inn Forbidden City Beijing is located in central Beijing, adjacent to the Forbidden City, which is close to the downtown area. To the east is Wanfujing Street, along West Chang An Avenue and with a few minute walk to Tiananmen Square.

I think Wangfujing Grand Hotel in Wangfujing commercial street (famous night market) is pretty good. A cheap but nice 5 star hotel, close to forbidden city Beijing.

Go to a map of Beijing and find that only hotel which actually overlooks the Forbidden City. My friend stayed there just earlier this year, recommended it to me (I live in Shanghai) but I lost the listing when I replaced by computer.
