How can you clean the air filter on a 2006 Ford Focus?

Update:

The Dealer says that the air filter is one of those forever filters and it is surpose to last for the life of the vehicle. and they cost about $80 bucks to replace.

    The dealer told you right.Believe it or not,the filter is engineered to last for the lifetime of the Focus and is very difficult to change even if it was supposed to be.Hard to believe but true.

    i guess you could tap it on the ground and get a majority of the dirt out.

    You don't, you change it for a new one, and throw the old one out.
