Cheap hotels in or around new york city?

I'm looking to travel august 7 through the 9 2010 and am having quite a bit of difficulty finding a reasonable to me anyways hotel i would say around a 100/night. i'm not familiar with new york so i don't know where the seedy parts are and where the park ave parts are but i need a safe hotel and just a bed to sleep in i don't care about the cable or what not. It doesn't even have to be in new york city though it would be nice if it were. Thanks for the help

$100 a night in Manhattan is going to be tough. You can probably find a decent hotel such as a Holiday Inn in Queens or Brooklyn in that price range, and remember the trains in NYC are very easy to navigate and if you get lost just ask someone. Don't believe that horrible misconception that all New Yorkers are rude and such. Also try priceline and some of the other name your own price sites online. We stayed at the Marriot Marquis a few weeks ago for only $225 a night after a night of partying when we didn't want to go home lol... There are literally thousands of hotels in NYC so just do some research and put some prices in to see what you get. Good luck.

The only thing you will find that even approaches that level is around Newark Airport. NOTHING, i repeat NOTHING, in the city is that cheap. Even a disguting shared hostel room is approaching 100$ a night right now. Check out some of the cheaper hotels, like the econo-lodge for example, around Newark Airport. You might be able to get into something like that for around 50-75$. Then you can hop NJ transit into the city. You wont find anything even remotley nice in NYC for under 150-200$.

Search www.bookingbuddy.com. You can plug in your hotel arrangements, then search various different websites, for the best deal.

www.expedia.com - If you have the address of where you are needing to go, you can search the closest hotel to your location. Then expedia gives you their best pick for the hotel. it's also given stars as well. I would pick a hotel with at least a 3 or above, just to be safe.
