Why would my University's financial aid office remove financial information from my FAFSA form?

I was really confused and actually asked an earlier question as to why my Pell Grant for the upcoming semester was originally offered to me at $5500 and then was reduced to $2700 a week later. I investigated and I had received an email from FAFSA saying my form had been changed, and yet I made no changes whatsoever. So when I pulled up the form last night, the University's financial aid office had removed the amount of child support that I had paid in 2009 from my form. This amount is $10.800, and is a considerable difference in my eligibility for aid. Just as soon as I reentered the child support payments, my eligibility number went back up to $5550.

I just don't understand how or why the University would do this without discussing it with me first. The only possibility that I could come up with is that the $10,800 isn't listed as a deduction on my 2009 taxes. Well, anyone who is familiar with either paying or receiving child support can tell you, that child support payments are not tax deductible, only alimony payments are. So can someone please explain to why they believe this has happened to me and if I can expect them to do it to me again? Thank you in advance for any help you can give me,

Update:

Thank you for the very helpful information. I do understand the confusion on the amount that I paid and why I am in the financial need situation now. I made a very good income in 2009, however I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in December 2009 which caused me to lose my income. Now, I am in a very unique and stressful situation because of this that I am attempting to return to school and finish my degree at 38 years old. Sorry for the confusion.

The school does make corrections to fafsas. They do this after verification forms are turned in.

You were probably selected for verification, filled out their forms, and did NOT include the child support figures on your verification forms. If you did indeed pay $10,000 for the entire Jan-Dec 2009 calendar year, you should have no problems proving it. Take these documentations to the schools financial aid office and show them.

You have a problem however, if you SAID you paid $10,000 in child support and you entered your income earned from working as very low... how can you pay 10,000 in child support if you only earned 10,000? Something is wrong with your fafsa if that is the case... (missing info or other resources probably)

You would raise eyebrows in the fin aid office if you entered you paid 10,000 in child support but only earned 8,000 from working. The amount is the actual amount you PAID, not any amount you were SUPPOSE to pay.

Hope this helps.... oh, and yes, child support is not included on your tax forms and the fa office knows this. Again, show them proof. Then you will also have to prove how you didn't starve to death if your income is very low... if it is.. then they will prob adjust other lines on your fafsa.. someone is supplementing your income or helping you pay bills... look at the line with the question asking "Money paid on your behalf. bills, etc." If you paid 10,000 in child support and earned... say 8000 then someone else is paying other things FOR you and this amount goes in this line on your fafsa.
