Canon Digi Camera Model S51S display always says "Memory Card Locked" or Memory Card fault.?

Each time the camera is turned on the display shows the above message /s and even if the SD card is changed to another card it always shows the same message. Have tried "Reformatting the Card" and now have lost all the photos on the SD card which are very important. How can I overcome the fault and recover the photos as I cannot download the SD card into the Computer as the Computer now says Program not supported or Program not Compatible with this Computer. I'm running Windows 7 and have downloaded plenty of photos before this problem arose.

I believe that you can still recover the photos, if you have not recorded anything else/taken new photos in the same card.

All you need to do is download Asoftech Photo Recovery software from the net ( http://www.asoftech.com/apr/ )

    Now follow the following steps:

    1. Connect your Card to computer using a card reader or card slot on your computer.

    2. Go to "My Computer".

    3. Find out the drive assigned to the card at "My Computer" Menu (for example E:).

    4. Specify the location where to save restored photos.

    5. Click button "Start" to start analyzing disk to look for recoverable photos.

    6. Wait for the analyzing process to complete. You can preview the recoverable photos' thumbnail.

PLEASE NOTE: The free version (trial) will only be analyzing disk for recoverable image and allow you to view recoverable file, full version is needed to recover file. If you see the thumbnails appearing, the photos can be recovered. You may buy the program after that.

    7. Press "Recover" button to restore lost photos.

The software is quite good to recover lost, deleted and formatted digital photos on removable media. Works with every type of digital card reader appearing as a drive letter in your local PC.

    Hope this helps!

Check the actual SD card. Most cards have little switches on it. It might be switched onto lock mode where you can't add or remove photos on to/from the card.

When photos videos and other files are delete from digital camera, they are never truly deleted. This is because that the actual data of those deleted media are still stored on digital camera memory card and not erased away. However, the camera file system will mark the space as free so that when you use digital camera to shoot video or take picture, the space will be used for new files. Same thing happens when you reformatted the sd card of your digital camera, all file table will be emptied and all the space of memory card wil be marked as available.

SO, after digital camera memory card reformat, or you deleted photos videos files from digital camera, make sure that you do not save any new files onto digital camera memory card (including flash card, memory stick, micro sd, sdhc, sd mini card, etc), do not use camera to take more photos as you may risk writing over the space of deleted files that you are trying to recover!

You can download the camera data recovery software for free.
