How did they know that 2010 it would be like this?

II Timothy 3:1-5,7 "But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of god; holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth."

Pretty good description of the current era don't you think?

Update:

Thanks for your responses folks, please keep in mind that there are certain prophecies that would not have been able to be fulfilled unitl this era (for example, Revelation 13:16, Possibly describing RFID chips?). Alos, while it is true that the behaviours described above, is it not fair to say that is if far more prevalent today than it was 2000 years ago?

Update 2:

Please excuse the typo

2 Timothy 3:1-5 gives us an indication that during the conclusion of the system, or last days, the fruitage all around Christians would be bad. Paul was not saying that the 19 things listed would be the prime way to prove that the last days had arrived. Rather, he was warning about what we would have to contend with during the last days. Verse 1 speaks of “critical times hard to deal with.” That expression is from the Greek, and it literally means “appointed times fierce.” (Kingdom Interlinear)

Paul begins his list by predicting that in the last days, “men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money"

(2 Timothy 3:2) You would be right to say that throughout history there have been conceited, self-serving men and women. Yet, there is no doubt that this defect is unusually common today. It is extreme in many people. It is almost the norm in the political and commercial world. (BP is an example!) Men and women pursue power and fame at any cost. Usually that is at any cost to others, for such lovers of self care little how they harm other people. They are quick to sue or cheat others

So really that prophecy is a fingerprint of our days.

Absolutely, and that's because God had inspired men to write his thoughts in the Bible. These are just a few signs of the times before the end will come. Read Matthew 24:1-14.

Yes, this is the final generation, God's War is coming - Psalms 2:1 Why have the nations been in tumult And the national groups themselves kept muttering and empty thing? 2 The kings of earth take their stand And high officials themselves have massed together as one. Against Jehovah and against his anointed one 3[ Saying] "Let us tear their bands apart And cast their cords away from us! 4 The very ONE sitting in the heavens will laugh; Jehovah himself will hold them in derision 5 At that time he will speak to them in his anger; And in his hot displeasure he will disturb them.

There are always lovers of self, lovers of money boastful, arrogant, etc. people no matter what era you are in, that is like me playing Russian Roulette with a full gun, and shooting the trigger, and then acting all surprised when someone ends up dead.

If you christians want to be taken seriously, start PRACTICING WHAT YOU PREACH, and stop citing from a dusty book thats not even worthy of being called a book, holy, moral or inspired.

Ancient scripture rears its ugly head again.

This quote could be applied to every era.

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for

authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place

of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their

households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They

contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties

at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.

This is from Plato! Way before Timothy was a craven glint in his father's eye...

That sounds like a pretty good description for any moment in human history, actually. Hell, a good number of those attributes are applicable to the puritans who are screaming at any given point that the world is wicked and we're all going to hell.

It's kind of someone shot an arrow at a wall, and you've gone and painted the target around where it hit.

Sadly, pretty good description of almost any era in human history - this golden age of puppy dogs and continual random acts of kindness for all by all that people go on about has yet to be ...

Humanity has always had these qualities.

However, we are in the most peaceful age of our existence. Living back in the day of Jesus and his homeboys would not be fun.

That last part is completely wrong though, what truth is there to be found? There is only fiction.

As opposed to what? That time a hundred years ago when every single person in the world was nice, kind, caring, loving and moral? Can you please show me *any* time in human history when it was like that?

Because it's the same now as it was when it was written. People will never change.
