An employee worked 40 hours at his regular rate of $5.00 per hour. He also worked 5 hours of overtime at a rate equal to 1-1/2 times his regular rate. How much did he earn this week? my answer was 230.5 please help me determine if it's right.

i got it wrong i thought it was 1 subtract 1/2 instead of 1 1/2. darn anyways thanx yall

    Wrong answer.

    5x40 = 200

    5x1.5x5 = 37.5

    First, to find his regular pay for 40 hours:

    40*5.00=$200

    Then, find out how much he gets per overtime hour:

    5*1.5= $7.50/OT hour

    Then, find his overtime pay:

    5*7.50= 37.5

    Add them up

    200+37.5=$237.50

    So, you were off by seven dollars.

    plus 5 hours at time and half 7.50= 37.50
