what maximum update of software can a first gen ipod touch undergo? can it update to os3?

    a 1st generation iPhone & iPod touch can update to 3.1.3

    a 2nd generation iPhone & iPod touch can update to 4.0 (with some of the features)

    a 3rd generation iPhone & iPod touch can update to 4.0 (with all of the features)

    a 4th generation iPhone & iPod touch* will come with 4.0 (with all of the features + some extras)

    *coming in September
