Why is practically every question in this section an atheist/theist argument?

Every time I visit this section of Y!A all I see are questions like "Christians, how can you defend your evil superstitions?" or "Atheists, where do you get your morals from?" Then, whenever someone actually asks a genuine question instead of pointlessly baiting those they disagree with, the answer thread just gets turned into a atheist v theist debate (and quite a poor one).

For example, I recently looked at a question about passages from the Bible related to hope; the asker apparently wanted to a cheer a friend up. The asker and his/her friend might not have even been Christian. I'm an atheist, but I find many parts many religions and holy books interesting and inspiring. Parts of the Bible can be inspiring and uplifting even if you're not a Christian.

However, while a few people provided some very nice passages, a great many just wrote things like "Why are you offering her false hope, why don't you just be logical like me?" Now, the question was not "Is there a God?" The question was about uplifting Bible passages. This is the sort of question that we hardly ever see in this section, because questions about particular parts of or literature from particular faiths are drowned in "I'm an atheists, I'm so clever, hey did you know I'm an atheist?" and "Atheists, if you don't covnert now you'll go to hell forever and ever!"

Atheists, you don't believe in God, we get it. Christians/others, you think atheists should believe in God, we get it. If a question specifically asks about this issue, feel free to answer it, but don't spoil otherwise friendly and interesting questions with "Who cares, there's no God" or "You've got it wrong, convert to my way of thinking or you'll burn!" It doesn't make you look intelligent, it just makes you look silly.

I think there should be a specific section for skeptics and believers to argue, but until such a section is created, could atheists and theists who want to discuss this please limit the amount of questions on this issue so they don't drown the rest of the section in question after question asking basically the same thing?

Thoughts?

Because nearly everybody here is either an atheist or a theist. Duh.

"I think there should be a specific section for skeptics and believers to argue..."

    There already is, this one.

Don't like it? Go somewhere else. But if your beliefs can't stand up to a little criticism and discussion, what good are they?

    Peace.

You'd like it clean cut, to the point, not off topic.

If you ever teach a group of people, or have led out

in discussion at work or in any of your own areas,

I wonder if you've had totally unrelated comments,

questions etc.? And this starts right away in

like grade 1!! If this is learned, it's learned

immediately. There are hurtful people as you

know, and guess what hurtful people's

point in living is? And they are everywhere.

If they are Christian, then they surely have

to make some very big changes because

its just not biblical. And I also like that

you feel free and good about using the

bible to help you without having to follow

it. The bible is never against any of this.

For those who do believe in God, He

loves His creation, and His earth. I put

capitals because that's my belief. So,

we will of course, always have what

you portray here and it's just report

or TD, like you have to eliminate weeds

    in an otherwise lovely garden.

You have the option of not reading the questions/answers. No point in whining about it. You are a user like everyone else so you can't dictate what type of questions people want and like to discuss. This section would have no traffic if the majority of questions were about uplifting Bible passages or other yawns.

despite what you think clearly this is what the people want. if you want some uplifting stories explained why not pop down your local church instead of posting on a message board that annoys you. youll no doubt get a better/saner?!? answer from a church minister anyway. and they could probably do with a donation or two,

the interweb is a free for all, the ultimate in democracy - what a mess it can get eh?

you in all hazard shouldn't get right into a marriage once you're anticipating your companion to have an affair. Marriage is between 2 human beings. in case you/ your companion cant make the dedication to stay monogamous, then the marriage will in no way paintings or be a wholesome one.

This is where society is concerning religion. Why does it really exist? We are here on a forum to ask questions about it, not to just promote it. This isn't Y! endorsements. If you only want to see it through your rose colored glasses go to one of the many sites that blocks us

That's what the dialogue tends toward. I find it a little crass, myself, as I think Christians shouldn't mind much of the nonsensical braying, what with the command to turn the other cheek and all.

I'm a christian and I agree with you. everyone is free to believe as they wish. No one needs everyones opinion or thoughts on something that is not pertaining to the actual question.
