Is there an announcer from another team that you like & dislike?

Only one rule to this. The usual clowns(Joe Buck & Joe Morgan are excluded this time. These are my choices.

Announcer that i like from another team.= Howie Rose the Mets announcer from WFAN Radio. This guy is an example of what an announcer should be. Though a Met Fan & Yankee hater(From what i heard anyway.) he shows no bias & favoritism for the Mets. He calls it right down the middle & know what he's talking about. I remember him doing the announcing for Fox during a Mets-Phils game & he was outstanding. I think he should have the announcers job on Fox. If he was Fox would be more enjoyable to watch.

Announcer from another team who i dislike.= Gary Cohen. No offense to Met Fans who like him but to me he's a complete opposite of what Howie Rose is. One of the most biased announcers i have ever heard. Can he be more of a cheerleader for the Mets than he already is? Does he have to make it so obvious his bias during his announcing? You would think he's in love with some of the Met players the way he talks about them(Especially David Wright.) I also dislike him b/c according to stories i have read he stole the SNY announcing job that originally was supposed to go to Rose after he cried & moaned about how unfair that was until SNY relented & gave him the TV job. Again this is no offense to Met Fans. Just my opinion. What are your choices?

Update:

Vin Scully is another that i like. A true legend.

Update 2:

Your'e right Ab. i don't always listen when he does bash Manuel or another player. If the story is true about how he stole the SNY Announcer job that was supposed to go to Howie Rose just b/c he whined about it it is one of the big reasons why i don't like him. That's very petty on his part. I like Rose better & i think he would do a better job on SNY but again just my opinion. I will agree with u though on Sterling.(As well as Kay ) They both can be annoying as well.

How can you not like Gary Cohen? One of the best in the business. Gary, Keith and Ron all do a great job, and that's exactly why they won an emmy. Of course it may seem as if he's biased at times, but that's partly because he works for SNY (Mets Channel) and he's a Mets fan. You are a Yankee fan, so of course you don't watch the Mets games that he calls out Jerry Manuel for his decision making. One thing I do know is, he's better than Michael Kay, John Sterling, and Suzyn Waldman. That's for sure.

Edit: I don't know if that story is true, but you're right. Howie does an incredible job. I just have respect for both men. Very good at their professions.

As someone with weird hours and mlb radio at work, I have a quite a few likes. Jerry Coleman and Ted Leitner, the Padres announcers, keep me company at night. Jerry is well into his 80s, but his stories about baseball in general and the Yankees in particular in the late 40s and early 50s are fascinating and often very funny. Steve Stone, the White Sox radio announcer, is matter of fact and professional. The Brennermans, father and son, have a unique chemistry on the Reds games. I love Ron Santo for his unabashed and unprofessional homerism.

The worst, the absolute "numba ten" worst, unlistenable, has no business in a radio booth under any circumstances, is Susan Walden. The combination of that voice and her total Yankee bias makes her audio torture to me.

  • To be honest, There aren't many baseball games that are broadcasted in my area of Wisconsin from other teams...really none except and occasional Cubs game on WGN Chicago that comes in. I think their announcers are good. But even then I've only been able to watch 2 games due to the few games coming through or the Brewers being on at the same time.

I do love all the Brewers announcers though.

For baseball you gotta respect Vin Skully. Been around since before my old man was born. And if I could just cut away from baseball for a second, I gotta say, I love Troy Aikman as an announcer. Not only does he bring good commentary, but as we all know Aikman was a lifetime Cowboy. Now you might expect some Cowboy's cheerleading from him, and you'd think then when his Cowboys play my Giants, a hated rival, I might go scrambling for the mute button. Such is not the case. I mean for a guy we all know is rooting for the Cowboys, I haven't heard one bit of Cowboy homing on his part on Fox NFL Sunday in all the years I've been watching.

I agree with you on Cohen. The opposite of Aikman, hearing Choen call a game is like attending a Mets pep rally. It's ridiculous. Speaking of homers; don't even get me started on Sterling and Waldman...but then again you said ANOTHER team.

I don't like Ken Harrelson (sorry white sox fans) i just find him so annoying. maybe its because he is very biased and i find that very unprofessional. the whole "he gone" thing is annoying as hell.

i agree with you on Howie Rose. i enjoy listening to him

*Vin Scully will always be my favorite though :) couldnt pick him cause thats my team but still haha

I like Vin Scully and Bob Uecker. I don't know of anybody I dislike except Joe Buck.

I like Joe Castiglione from Red Sox radio. He knows the team so well, having been there for years. As a Yankees fan, I listen to the Red Sox broadcasts and root against them. I like the dejection in Joe's voice as he calls the final out in a Sox loss ("Swing, and a popup..."). Nothing wrong in my opinion for a team broadcaster to pull for his team.

And the guy I don't like is Tim McCarver, the king of stating the obvious (and restating it and restating it...)

Announcer from another team I like is Paul O'Neill from the Yankees, I just like his style. He would fit right in with the Mets announcers.

Announcer I don't like: simple, John Sterling, this guy makes me feel like I'm listening from the sewer.

    Source(s): Mets' fan...

Vin Scully is the best there is. He never quits talking but he's talking about the game so you always know what's going on. Jon Miller is my other favorite for his knowledge of the game.

i can' remember if it was the angels announcer, ( i think it might have been), and i thought ha ha ha on the angels...is that guy dead, etc. ours = better. really i like both announcers for the texas rangers and the k.c.royals. they got along, they sounds really nice, and i was starting to think the texas rangers were being entertaining. however, on the condensed game those things were happening very fast, so that is not what took place. but ours for the k.c. royals is great, i think.
